Photo Oxford: Pictures from the Garden

Oxford based photographer Paddy Summerfield published his first book Mother and Father in 2015, a photographic essay that quickly became a seminal text of domestic photography. Over the course of some twenty years he photographed his parents as they grew older, declined and disappeared.

Pictures from the Garden features the work of seven leading documentary photographers including; Vanessa Winship, Sian Davey, Matthew Finn, Alys Tomlinson, Jem Southam, Nik Roche and Alex Schneideman. Each photographer has responded to Summerfield’s original photography. The exhibition, curated by Clare Grafik of The Photographers’ Gallery, is the first time that this body has been shown together.

Pictures from the Garden will open as part of Photo Oxford 2023 and will also feature some of Summerfield’s original prints alongside the new works.
