Our Town

Written by Thornton Wilder Directed by Max Key

Life, love, death and everything in between. Just the everyday rhythm of the business of life.

Lives that may appear to be unremarkable at first glance but in this small town epic are found to be extraordinary through the passage of time and the playing of the smallest events of daily life.

Considered to be a classic of American theatre, Our Town was the realisation of Thornton Wilder’s radical vision to challenge the potential of theatre. He created a timeless and profound play that exploded the accepted notions of character and story and celebrated the craft of acting and the power of theatre.

Gloriously observed and rich in detail this Pulitzer prize-winning play continues to be theatrically fresh and emotionally powerful. It’s subject will always be topical because it is life itself.

Max Key is an award-winning director. His production of It’s Easy to be Dead was nominated for an Olivier Award and Off-West End Award and his production of The Glass Piano at the Coronet Theatre in Notting Hall, London was nominated for an Off-West End Award.

Our Town is a great opportunity to see emerging talent from one of the UK’s top Drama Schools. Graduates of the School in recent years include Lizzie Annis, currently playing in The Glass Menagerie in London’s West End, Sophie Cookson who starred as Christine Keeler in the recent BBC series The Trial of Christine Keeler and Dipo Ola recently seen on TV in Landscapers and We Hunt Together.

This amateur production of Our Town is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
