Work Experience Diary: March 2026

We hosted Órlaith, Max and Lyla for a week of work experience in March 2026. Here’s what they got up to…

Max: During our time at The North Wall we have met many different people with many different jobs and learnt a lot more about how the arts centre runs. We learnt about the marketing, workshops and all the opportunities for young people interested in the arts. In the future we will keep more up to date with these. Before coming here, we weren’t aware of how many jobs were involved in the art. Doing our projects gave us an insight into all the effort that goes into running workshops and curating a gallery, including budgets, participation and layout, which were a challenge to work out.

Lyla: My best bit of the experience was learning a lot about each individual department and what it takes for them to run The North Wall- and I found it especially cool that they’d taken shows to the Edinburgh Fringe. I also enjoyed asking a lot of questions on how everyone got into their career.

Órlaith: At The North Wall I have found it really interesting learning more about galleries and helping set up a gallery allowed me to learn more about how they run. This experience has grown my understanding of how people got into their careers. Also, working front of house on a show was eye-opening to the work that goes into it.
