The Dambusters and Beyond

Celebrating the RAF

A joint project by The North Wall and its principal sponsor, St Edward’s School, this exhibition will use archive photography, military artefacts, and largely unseen private papers and diaries to celebrate the RAF in its 100th anniversary year. The daring exploits and ingenuity of, among others, Geoffrey De Havilland, Guy Gibson and Douglas Bader – all former pupils of the school – will form a prominent part of the exhibition.

The vital roles played by women will also feature, from their significant contribution to the espionage activities of the Special Operations Executive in WWII right up to modern-day developments such as the recent announcement by the RAF that, for the first time, women are eligible to apply for ground close combat roles.
