Kendal Mountain Tour 2021

Unleash your adventurous side…

Join us for an evening of film celebrating adventure from some of the most spectacular places on earth, brought to you by the team behind Kendal Mountain Festival. You’ll be guided through a curation of stories from across the globe, told by a unique collection of travellers, athletes, activists and creatives.

Through culturally rich, cinematically beautiful and thought provoking films we’ll ask; what is possible in a changing world, what is beautiful, what is wild and what defines adventure?

The evening will include on-screen insights from the Kendal Mountain Festival team, as well as on-screen interviews with the filmmakers themselves.

Kendal Mountain Festival is the ultimate social gathering for outdoor enthusiasts – with a world-class programme of films and talks from international adventurers taking place on the edge of the Lake District each year. The Kendal Mountain Tour brings the best of the Festival films to cinemas across the UK. Whilst the Kendal Mountain team are unable to join you live at the venue this year, they will be with you on-screen and hope to return with live appearances in 2022.

About the Films

Before exit restrictions and bans on contacts dominates the news in March 2020, the Mountain Tribe Crew embarks on a ski touring adventure in the Ötztal Alps. The pandemic situation is worsening faster than expected, and the decision is made to end the film project early. However, the quarantined Ötztal and the applicable restrictions make it difficult for them to travel home

Myrtle Simpson – A Life on Ice

In 2018, National Geographic named Myrtle Simpson as one of four women who defied expectations and explored the world. She has experienced places most people only dream about, all while writing 13 books, collecting specimens for museums and raising four children. Today, at the age of 89 she still competes in downhill ski races, hikes, bikes and swims, and believes that more adventures await.

Chasing Ghosts

In their quest to identify the pollinator of the ghost orchid, a team spent three summers standing waist-deep in alligator- and snake-laden water, swatting air blackened by mosquitoes, and climbing to nausea-inducing heights. They came away with an even deeper love for Florida’s wildest wetlands – and with surprising revelations that may help to conserve the endangered orchid and its shrinking home.

British climber Hazel Findlay heads to Utah for a face-off with an immaculate 230-foot splitter crack; Concepción (5.13), located in the southwest desert near Moab.  “I guess I got my ass kicked a little bit,” says Hazel. “Performance anxiety comes because you put too much pressure on yourself. But if you have low expectations, then there’s no pressure anymore.” Ironically, as Hazel points out in this film, success happens when “You just kind of let yourself climb.”
