OXFORD TIMES: Nick Utechin interviews Mark Rowan Hull ahead of tonight`s performance
The Begbroke studio of abstract artist Mark Rowan-Hull has a lived-in feel. There are shelves of CDs (mostly jazz), a bed doubling as a sofa, a table covered in eight-inch square vivid paintings on card and an array of larger works that I thought might still be in progress but are in fact completed (that`s the way he paints!) “I did that at the Clothmakers` Hall in Leeds,” he says, pointing at a daubed five-foot-high rectangle of perspex, “while pianist Peter Hill played next to me.” That`s what this artist mostly does now: not much in…

The…

AN Magazine Review: Karen Purple
Read Clare Carswell`s review of Karen Purple`s exhibition...Clare Carswell is an interdisciplinary artist writer and curator based in Oxford UK and Berlin Germany. `Purple`s beautiful and gesturally abstract paintings reflect intrinsic associations with landscape and organic form and resonate with her highly individual associations of place and mood. In so doing she offers us her own visionary and timeless works that reveal her deep respect for the very Earth itself and reach beyond their specific corporeality to something ancient, primal…

KAREN PURPLE - Exhibition `Fieldwork`
A new exhibition by Karen Purple opens next week (From Monday 19th) Karen`s daily walks in the countryside have given her a unique approach to painting and drawing, by using dyes and pigments she makes herself from objects, soil and plants foraged from the undergrowth. The result is an intriguing mix of boxes, tiny sculptural drawings and large scale paintings. Karen has been working with the Oxford University`s Harcourt Arboretum for the last year, and she will be giving an Insight Tour on 5th May at 2pm. There will also be an opportunity…
