WHAT TO SEE: LYN GARDNER`S THEATRE TIPS
The Guardian Theatre Blog: So many shows, so few evenings. If you want to see new theatre this week you`re going to have to make some tough choices: Peter Brook 11 and 12 is opening at the Barbican, Jerusalem`s in the West End and the delicious Bette Bourne/Mark Ravenhill collaboration, A Life in Three Acts, is now at Soho (now all in one big juicy chunk rather than bite-size pieces). PICK OF THE WEEK: VICTORY OR DEATH
By Helen Peacocke » The 50 posters on show at the North Wall are part of the world`s third largest collection of its kind. It has been gathered by Mike Stanfield with help from Milly Diaz. The Importance of Being Earnest- `...a delight to leave the freezing night outside`- Daily Info
What a delight it was to leave the freezing night outside and enter into the warmth of The North Wall arts centre in Summertown. There we were able to enjoy Tomahawk`s (www.tomahawktheatre.co.uk) delightful production of one of Oscar Wilde`s classic plays, The Importance of being Earnest. It was the perfect antidote to concerns about Christmas presents not yet purchased, unfavourite relatives shortly to be visited, and (in my case) central heating that refuses to work. It is a crackerjack of a play, from which brilliant sayings burst forth at…

Salma Caller`s exhibition `Stunning` by Helen Peacocke of The Oxford Times
Self-taught artist Salma Caller, who now lives in Oxford, was concerned when she first walked into The North Wall gallery and confronted all that white space. Had she brought enough pictures? Would they fill the space? She need not have worried. Her amazing works – all framed in superb black frames – contrast so superbly with the starkness of the gallery, that this space has never looked better. Besides, her pictures need space to breathe. Salma paints in watercolours, which is not apparent to the spectator when first viewed. This…

DARK COMPLEXITY- REVIEW OF SHINEY SHINEY IN THE OXFORD TIMES
By Helen Peacocke. The dry autumn leaves strewn on the floor of the North Wall Gallery, Summertown, have not been blown in by the wind. They are all part of the picture Apotropaic, by Sharon Thomas, which dominates the main wall (see picture). This long charcoal drawing (80cm x 300cm) shows a young woman who is about to encounter a group of crow men, who are relaxing, having removed their beaks, and are totally unaware of her approach, while one, whom she has disturbed as she walks, kneels at her feet. The landscape, illuminated…
