An evening of readings, music and poetry in aid of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen
Sun 12th Sep 10 at 7:30pm
Come and join a company of distinguished actors and performers for an evening of fishing-themed entertainment in aid of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen.
Throughout the years the UK’s fishing communities have recorded in word and verse their unique and dramatic experiences at the hands of mother nature’s most unpredictable forces. This is your opportunity to come and experience this dramatic way of life as told by some magnificent exponents of the spoken word, as well as hearing from fishing skippers and ’Mission Men’, including the Mission Chaplain Reverend Andrew Wright, former pupil and teacher at St Edward’s, Oxford.
The Mission is the Fishermen’s charity and has been there for the nation’s fishermen for 128 years in times of emergency and hardship. It often not realized that fishing remains the most dangerous of peacetime occupations. The Mission men are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to provide emergency and welfare support for the communities that they serve.
This promises to be an evening of nostalgic tales of hardship and of joy, all in aid of the charity that supports the Fishermen that catch the fish we so often take for granted. |
