Thu 25th - Fri 26th Mar 10 at 8:00pm
Written by Samantha Ellis
’It’s gorgeous hair you’ve got. It’s a shame to hide it.’
Rivka wants the perfect wedding. She has the man, the dress, the wig and two weeks to go. But when doubt is cast on her wig everything starts to unravel and Rivka finds herself far from home, up a tree and caught up in the eviction of an anti road protest, not knowing whether she’ll be able to go back to where she came from, or whether she wants to.
Samantha Ellis’ play was inspired by a chance remark by Victoria Beckham in 2004 which sparked a crisis within the Orthodox Jewish community about the wigs worn by married women.
Following the play’s première at The Door, the production will tour the region, supported by the Sir Barry Jackson Trust.
This play was developed with the support of the European Association for Jewish Culture.
This play contains strong language.
’This is that genuinely rare beast, a popular comedy with heart, brains and the stomach to make some difficult choices.’ The Guardian
